A Brief Overview

Born in Venezuela, M. Joel Mujica began his musical career in 1986 in the National System of Youth Orchestras (El Sistema) under Maestro Alcides Maestre and Camilo Acosta.

In 1991, he was admitted to the Academia Latinoamericana de Violín (Latin American Violin Academy), founded by Maestro José Francisco Del Castillo, where he continued his studies with Maestro Rubén Cova. He was selected by audition as one of six students to study under Maestro Olivier Charlier (Professor at the Paris Conservatory) during two consecutive years of violin masterclasses held in Caracas.

As a soloist and concertmaster, he has performed internationally in countries such as Germany, Croatia, Colombia, Trinidad and Tobago, Saint Vincent, Saint Lucia, Puerto Rico, Barbados, and six cities across Argentina.

Starting in 1998, he was a first violinist with the Caracas Municipal Symphony Orchestra, and in 2010, he won the position of concertmaster by national audition—one of the top three orchestras in Venezuela.

He has participated in masterclasses with renowned violinists Leon Spierer (former concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic) and Charles Stegeman (concertmaster of the Pittsburgh Opera and Ballet).

In May 2015, he earned his Bachelor of Music with Distinction from The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music of London.

Currently, he serves as the principal concertmaster of the Provincial Symphony Orchestra of Bahía Blanca in Buenos Aires, Argentina—a position he earned through a competitive audition in 2017.
